Goodlands Cottage is a Grade 2 listed building on Tong Farm. It was built in the early 19th century to house the bailliff for the estate, as it then existed. The Trust acquired the cottage with the rest of the land at Hawkwood in the mid-1950s, since when it has been let to a variety of tenants.
The most recent tenant moved out in 2011, since when the condition of the cottage has deteriorated. During the vacant period the attached four bay barn was the subject of an arson attack, completlely destroying it.
A project began in early April to completely renovate the cottage, preparing it to be let again. JK Builders are undertaking the work, which is anticipated to be completed in July. The adjacent barn will be rebuilt and will continue to be of agricultural use by our tenant farmer.
